Florida is home to a diverse range of bird species, both native and migratory. Here are some of the most common birds you might see in the area:

American Robin: This migratory bird is a common sight in Brevard and Indian River counties during the winter months. They have a distinctive red breast and are known for their cheerful, melodic song.

Northern Cardinal: This beautiful red bird is a year-round resident of Florida and is often seen at backyard bird feeders. The male has a bright red plumage while the female is a more subdued brown color.

Mourning Dove: These gentle birds are a common sight in Florida and are known for their soft cooing calls. They are often seen feeding on the ground and are a favorite prey of many birds of prey.

Blue Jay: This striking blue and white bird is a common resident of Florida and is known for its loud, raucous calls. They are very intelligent birds and are often seen stealing food from other birds.

Red-winged Blackbird: These striking birds are found near wetlands and marshes and are known for their distinctive red and yellow wing markings. They have a loud, musical song and are often seen perched on cattails and other tall plants.

Common Grackle: These large blackbirds are a common sight in Florida and are known for their raucous calls and shiny, iridescent plumage. They are often seen in large flocks and can be very noisy.

Osprey: This impressive bird of prey is a common sight in Florida and can often be seen soaring over the water in search of fish. They have distinctive white heads and brown backs and are known for their sharp talons and hooked beaks.

It’s important to note that while many birds are welcome on properties with trees, they can become a problem when they venture into human habitations.
